Turcianske Teplice are one of the oldest spa towns in Europe. The healing effect of mineral water has a special and exceptional composition. Its rich mineralization has medicinal effects on musculoskeletal disorders, urological, nerve and gynecological diseases, even in combination diagnoses. Baths with medicinal water called "GOLDEN BATH" are also suitable for treating more than 25 diagnoses.

The King Sigismund of Luxembourg used to bath in the mineral water from Turčianske Teplice with a gold crown on his head centuries ago. As a legend says, water from Turčianske Teplice in connection with gold cured his gout and helped him to live long.

The Venus of Muráň owes her beauty to the springs, too.

The royal town of Kremnica owned the thermal springs from 1535 to 1949. The importance of the spa kept increasing - it was popular with nobility from Hungary, Poland, Austria and Transylvania. The King and the Emperor Maximilian of Habsburg and Francis II Vešeléni (Wesselényi) was among the most important spa clients. Beautiful Countess Mária Sečianska (Maria Szechy) was the prove that the water had a wholesome influence on a female body. Thanks to her immense beauty that no man could resist, she was also called the Venus of Muráň.

The spa construction development in the 19th and the 20th centuries

In 1885 a new building of the Blue Spa and the two-flor spa house of Ján Kollár were built.
In 1926 the spa house Malá Fatra, today Royal Palace, was built.
Veľká Fatra and Aqua spa houses were built in the 80’s and so the spa capacity increased to 465 beds.

Modern development of the spa

In 2005-2006 the original part of Veľká Fatra*** spa house was reconstructed.
On 23 February 2007 the 1st part of SPA & AQUAPARK – SPA was completed.
On 15 July 2007 His Royal Highness, the Archduke Michael von Habsburg-Lothringen opened the new entertainment and relaxation SPA & AQUAPARK.
In 2009 a new wing of Veľká Fatra**** designed for the most demanding spa clients was completed.
In 2011 balneotherapy premises were reconstructed.

Unique characteristics of thermal healing mineral water from Turčianske Teplice

Our healing springs were declared healing thermal waters pursuant to act No. 538/2005 on natural healing waters, natural treatment spas, spa localities and natural mineral waters. Thermal healing mineral water has a wide spectre of proved healing effects (on musculoskeletal diseases, neurological, urological, digestive, gynaecological, oncological and occupational diseases) thanks to a high content of mineral substances (up to 1,524 mg/l). Mineral water with overall content of dissolved mineral substances over 1,000 mg/l* is classified as healing water. Thermal healing mineral water is used for baths of the whole body or individual body parts, for water drinking therapies with certain types of diseases. Thermal healing mineral water helps improve blood and lymph circulation. The water pressure facilitates exercise and movement in water. The surface temperature of your body increases in response to temperature of the thermal mineral water. That's the primary physical reaction. The secondary reaction involves nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory and endocrine system, as well as immunity system. Chemical effect of the mineral water is important, too, as mineral substances penetrate into skin and deeper during a bath and afterwards, too. Such baths decrease blood pressure, help dilate veins and have an overall relaxation and calming effect. Temperature of mineral baths is usually 34°- 38°C (in exceptional cases up to 40°C).

Richly mineralised (sulphurs, bicarbonates, calcium, magnesium, iron, etc.) thermal water from Turčianske Teplice has provable healing effects on musculoskeletal diseases, urological, nervous and gynaecological diseases.

Thanks to the content of calcium sulphate CaSO4 that reduces urine pH, the water is suitable for treatment of phosphate and carbonate stones in urinary tract.
Thanks to its high magnesium and calcium content that have anti-inflammatory and antiallergic effects, the water treats prostate inflammation condition.
Due to the high content of calcium, magnesium and fluorine, the mineral water from Turčianske Teplice is suitable for water drinking therapy as prevention of osteoporosis, several types of kidney stones and intestinal diseases.
It is also suitable in cases of large intestine tissue inflammation (endocolitis) as it has a favourable effect on the tissue, and in case of gall bladder diseases as it increases bile formation and secretion.
Such healing drink is suitable for treatment of hyperacidity and increased production of stomach acids. Vice versa, it is not recommended to those suffering from insufficient stomach acid production.

Uniqueness of the healing water from Turčianske Teplice

Natural healing water with moderate content of minerals - sulphates, bicarbonates, calcium, and an increased content of magnesium and fluoride, slightly acidic, thermal, hypotonic, with overall content of minerals over 1,524 mg.l-1 and with temperature up to 47 ˚C.
